This recently, for one. Some of this, too. Carpenter Brut is a real cool dude, it's electro that reminds me a lot of campy 80's movies but actually good, with some darker elements. The official video for this song is NSFW if you go looking for it but it's great if you like 80's b-films and Asian tits. And I've been listening to Kashiwa Daisuke for like two months now, it's like Japanese classical postrock with glitch elements here and there. Stella is a better song but it's over 3x as long and this has a pretty video.
They popped up on one of my Pandora stations a few days ago and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I went looking for more and I found this band on the way: They're a Taiwainese post-rock band with some classical and pop elements.
Am i hipster scum for listening to Mumford And Sons? In australia nobody knows who they are, what is it like for america? Because i feel like a hipster listening to it.
I've never listened to Mumford And Sons, but if you like that sort of thing (folky shit, I guess?), as a hipster myself, I could suggest a few bands: Ben Howard, relatively unknown British artist/group. Iron and Wine, not exactly underground but the guy has a good beard and the music owns. Oftentimes evokes a vibe similar to what I felt in the south. The whole Shepherd's Dog album is perfect. Vampire Weekend isn't really strictly folk by any means but this particular song is close enough and pretty much won me on the band. They're also super well known but you're young so I figure I'm dealing with a fairly blank slate. This isn't even folk, just indie, but fucking listen to it and everything by them anyways. This album is one of those taste-defining ones I listened to a lot in my teens. Chris Pureka is one of those indie-cred aces in the hole I have, she also is really good at folky breakup songs. Also Bon Iver and overrated but still good shit like that, etc.
Gotta note, Chris Pureka's music translates super well live, like probably better than her recorded albums honestly. Also her style, since she dresses super androgynous, kinda has me jelly.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. To increase my indie-hipster cred, I am now going to pretend that I've been a fan for years. While we're on a hipster folk/rock kick... Roll Acosta is a local Tucson group that makes some pretty amazing music:
